Best for Last, Chapter 2

Link ran and continued running untill he met up with a large tree. He shrunk to the ground as hot tears slid down his cheaks. He got up and headed for the castle. Thats were Zelda was and somehow he felt she might ease the pain. It was about a two day walk so he made a goal to get to Lon Lon Ranch before nightfall.

"Saria," Mido called as Saria ran to her hut. She slamed herself on the bed and didn't get up for another couple of days. Tiri looked at her with worry and decided tough love was the best way to do things.

"Alright, so he's gone it doesn't mean you should stop your life," The green fairy smiled thoughtfully at Saria.

"I guess your right," Saria said with a sigh and managed a smile.

"I always am!" Tiri said brightening up a bit.

Link contuined battling Sir West. He tightened his grip on his sword and chucked it gleefully into the air. It had been about three months since he left Kokiri forest and Saria. He tried to get into the castle, but no luck. There in the market he met Sir West, a charming young knight from the far country of Amuli (Am-u-lie). He had been kind to the lost soul of Link by taking him in and feeding him. He was extremely pleased to hear that Link was good at swordsmanship. The brave knight took him on as an aprentence. He moved Link into a small room in his house in the village Kakiriko. Link was an execlent fighter and Sir West was training him night and day. Link enjoyed having his mind taken off things by fighting all day. Unfortunatly Sir West also forced young Link to do chores, such as take care of the chickens when they flew off, for Tellie his younger cousin, who was allergic to them. Link sometimes enjoyed grabbing the stupid birds and throwing them in the pen.

But during the months he was adjusting to his new life Saria took his leaving hard. She wouldn't go out and play music in the forest and she would stay inside her hut unless she needed more food. She eventually didn't come out for two weeks straight and that means no bath, so Saria was getting pretty discusted with herself. So she desided she'd better go bathe and soon. She headed outside to the woods and went thru the maze until she got to a perfect bath spot. It was in the woods so no one would come. It was a deep pond with nice water, and if you looked closly you could see a passage way under the water, but to where? Who knows? She looked around and surveyed the area. When she was sure no one was coming, she slipped off her tunic and shirt and boots and dived in to the cold waters. She grabbed her tunic and rubbed it against the water until it was clean. Then she laid it out to dry. She dived down as far as she could wriggling around and moving her head around, until she was nice and clean. As she rose to the surface Mido was there. She screamed.

"Mido! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!!" She swam to the edge so she was covered.

"S..sorry I..I was checking up on you." Mido covered his eyes and then opened a small gap between his fingers. Saria grabbed her boot and chucked it at him. "Owww! Fine sorry. I'm going." Saria waited a few minutes then grabbed her things and got dressed. She ran to her hut and plopped down on her chair, her cheaks bright red.

Mido sulked in his room. And looked at his bright yellow fairy and started talking.

"For once, I don't have any compatition from stupid blondy and Saria has to go into a deep funk. I mean come on this isn't fair what does he have that I don't." The yellow fairy was waiting for a chance like this.

"Brains, good looks, nice personallity, and Saria." Mido stared at the little ball of light and threw his chair her.

"Whew, today has been a long day," said Tiri as she flew in and plopped on Saria's shoulder, "Oh, my. You bathed. Thank you. I mean you were begining to smell a bit ripe." Saria shot a hurt look at her fairy with her tear stained eyes. Tiri flew back a little and then reached down to comfort the one she protected. "You know, he will vist, after he gets adjusted."

"Why? Why couldn't he have a fairy? Then I could talk to him thru the orcarinas. I don't think I can go on Tiri. I miss him, alot," Tiri's eyes filled with genuine concern.

"Lets go talk to the Great Deku Tree," Tiri said. A feeling of dread hung on her. Was Saria going to recover from this boy. Saria smiled and got up. Her cheaks turning pink relizing how much she'd been feeling sorry for herself. She nodded and followed her little green gaurdian.

When they approched the Great Deku Tree he smiled upon seeing Saria. "Why has thou cometh?"

"I know that Link is Hylian and that I can't leave the forest, but I really really miss him. And I want the pain to go away."

"I could make thou's feelings dissapeer as if there weren't any on forth thought."

"No! I need to remember everything about him. Pain or no pain."

"Dosth thou love Link." Saria cheaks were now a deep shade of maroon. She faintly nodded. The Deku Tree looked at her as if he was seeing inside of her. He sighed. Her feelings wouldn't go away on their own. And even though the Deku Tree hated it. He had too. "Tis a true thing that when one Kokiri leaves they die. But if one was not Kokiri anymore. No more protection from gaurdians. Then one would, if directed, grow to the state they wanted to and then thou would grow in 'normalacy,'" Saria stared at the wise tree for a moment.

"That means, if I give up being Kokiri, then I would grow to Links age? Then continue like he does?" The Deku Tree nodded (well sort of). "Yes," Tiri looked at Saria for a second. The Great Deku Tree could see arguing would do no good. So he closed his eyes. As he did this a green light went over Saria. It broke the bond with Tiri and the Great Deku Tree. Saria grew a little as did her hair. She looked more fair then before, but it was only a few years difference.

"The bonds of time are done, sadly you must leave now. You can't return to the village for more than a day. You can journey thru the woods of lost, but the spirts have to decide if they will talk to thou." Saria ran over and kissed the Great Tree then Tiri she ran and got a few things. Then she walked out of the forest of the unknown, leaving her friends and family behind. She didn't even know where Link would be, but none of that mattered. She left with a smile on her face and a tear in her eye, for she knew she wouldn't see her family again, but she would see Link.
